Olympia North will be having a Pajama Day for all students this coming Friday 1-17-20. This is a school wide celebration for consistently demonstrating our PBIS expectations (Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe). Great job Spartans! Be the ONE!

We are starting to see more illnesses in the school. If your student has a fever of 100.4 or higher, they must be without a fever (without fever reducer) for 24 hours. If your child has been vomiting and/or has had diarrhea, they must be symptom free for 24 hours. If your child has been diagnosed with influenza, your physician will tell you when it is safe to return to school. When calling the attendance line, please leave a brief description of the illness. A lot of times, we have to track illnesses and this will make it a lot easier. If you have any questions regarding concerns, please give the school a call. Thank you!

Kids find and read news in lots of ways. But studies show they're not very good at interpreting what they see. How can we help them get better? Teaching your kids about the structure of online news articles is an important place to start.

Family Tip 2: Play "Spot the Ad"!
When you see media, ask your kids to figure out what the ad is selling. Sometimes it's obvious, and sometimes it's not. Help them explore why certain pictures, sounds, and words are used to sell certain products.

Fake news is nothing new. Check out this timeline to learn about some ways it has been utilized throughout history to influence society. Ask your family about other examples that you know of and why they were used!

Congratulations to Ashlyn Witham in 5th grade for winning the Yearbook Cover Contest at ONE! Nice job Ashlyn!

Thank you to everyone who attended the "Caring Adults" event put on by the Spartan Council. It was a wonderful way to kick off the new semester!

Congratulations to Mrs. Loyer and her 2nd grade class for winning the One Class at a Time award! ABC news and CEFCU presented a $1,000 check to Mrs. Loyer to be used for her classroom. The news feature will air on ABC news at 5:00 and 5:30 pm on February 5th.

Tomorrow is the first ever Spartan Council, "Caring Adults" event at Olympia North! This event begins at 7:40 and ends around 8:30. Please come out to show students how much their community supports them!

All media comes with an author and an agenda. Help kids think critically about any media they view with critical questions that dig below the surface. And to really empower kids, have them create their own media with these same questions in mind.

Family Tip 1: Encourage Healthy Skepticism!
Help kids analyze the messages around them - from toy packaging to Instagram posts to news headlines - and question the purpose of the words and images they see. Teach kids how to use fact-checking tools like Snopes and FactCheck.org.

Wishing all of our Olympia North families a very happy Holiday Season!

Winter Break runs from December 21 - January 5th. School will resume on Monday, January 6, 2020.

Do you want to build a Snowman? Olympia North Kindergarten and 1st grade students built a Physical Education version of a Snowman during class. Teams had to relay down the gym on a scooter to get a piece of equipment to build the snowman. Then decide how to use the equipment to make their snowman.

Students at Olympia North help set a World Record. On Nov. 14th students at Olympia North and students across the country stacked cups during Physical Education class. The result is a Guinness World Record.

If students want to submit a yearbook cover for the Yearbook Cover Contest they are due by the end of the school day on Thursday, December 19th.

The gift store from Winter Wonderland will be available through Wednesday, 12-18-19 if your child still wants to pick something out!
