Most kids will encounter mean behavior at some point in their digital lives. For some kids, this experience is a blip that's easily forgotten, while for others it can have deep, long-lasting effects. For parents, the key is staying involved in kids' lives -- both online and off -- so they can step in and offer help if necessary. With guidance from parents and educators, kids can learn how to dodge the drama and stand up for others.
Throughout October we will be sharing 6 different tips for families to encourage best behavior when approaching the topics of Cyberbullying, Digital Drama, and Hate Speech with your families.
1) Define your terms
2) Check in about online life
3) Role-play
4) Encourage upstanding
5) Take breaks
6) Review worst-case steps

Fifth graders show off their reading fluency while building relationships with the younger students and cultivating their leadership skills. This is a highlight of the week for both 5th graders and kindergarteners!

At Olympia, we want to create a space where our teachers can thrive.
One way we work towards doing this is through our teacher mentoring programs. Our teacher mentors are trained to provide quality support to the new teachers in our district while also encouraging them to develop their unique teacher presence. We are grateful for our amazing group of teacher mentors here at Oly!

Families, please take a few minutes to complete the parent survey for parent engagement topics. We will communicate the top 3 topics and plan events around the results. Thank you for your input! https://forms.gle/of8TaF3D2ZY6BcnS6

Last week Olympia North students kicked off SEL Boot Camp by sharing their DNA (dreams, needs, and abilities) with their teachers. This week students will be focusing on Zones of Regulation to help them identify and name their feelings. We do our best learning in the green zone, so later this week students will create a coping tool box to help them stay in the green zone!
