Late post: The full week before Thanksgiving break, the Department of FUN hosted an underground spirit week for OHS staff. We had so much fun dressing up and pranking the students throughout the week.

Today the Unified PE class got to celebrate an awesome semester by getting out & going bowling! I say it every semester, but we have the best PE buddies! So thankful for these high school students who show up each day, create friendships, and are positive role models for our OTP students! Thank you to the following students: Javin Bruder, Mackenzie Follick, Ethan Johnson, Brooklyn Komnick, Khloe Scheets, Grace Small, Marlee Talbert, Sierra Whitecotton, Natalie Vanetten 🩵🩵🩵

:: Give them the right words ::
Kids learn about appropriate verbal and physical communication from watching you. But online conversations can be invisible. Occasionally, narrate as you're writing texts or social media comments when your kids are in earshot.

So much of kids' social lives happens online. Whether they're texting with their study group, flirting on social media, or voice-chatting on game platforms, middle and high schoolers can learn to communicate in safe and healthy ways. These skills will help kids -- and the people they're communicating with -- have positive experiences online.

Along with your tween and teen, research how digital devices, social media , and apps and games get paid. Do they sell ads? Do they sell kids' data? Discuss why companies might want kids to spend more time on their platforms and what tricks they use to keep their attention.

My kid seems addicted to her phone. What do I do? It may seem like your kid is addicted (and may even "feel" addicted) to the phone, but it's more likely normal teen behavior. Read more: bit.ly/Oly_QA2

Ask kids to notice their feelings, both physical and emotional, during screen and non-screen activities. Does their heart rate increase when their phone vibrates? Encourage kids to keep the constructive activities and let go of the rest.

The Olympia Music Department has several upcoming performances! We hope to see you there!
OMS Choir will perform on Wednesday, December 4th at 7pm in the auditorium.
OHMS Band will perform on Thursday, December 5th at 6:30pm in the auditorium.
There will be dinner fundraisers before the concerts on both evenings. Tacos will be served on Wednesday and pulled pork sandwiches on Thursday. Order meal tickets here: http://bit.ly/olyfundraiser

Dear Senior Families,
It is a tradition at Olympia High School to feature special student recognition space in the final pages of our Olympiad yearbook. We call these Pride Ads, an opportunity for families and friends to recognize a graduating senior in their life with a photo and proud message.
Our size options range from 1/8th of a page to full page spaces. Some send in one or more favorite photos of their child growing up, and some choose to feature sports portraits and photoshoot pictures. All are accompanied by messages that range from a couple sentences to entire paragraphs, signed with family member names. What a way to say “Congratulations” to your graduate in the book they will keep for a lifetime!
To set up a Pride Ad for your graduating senior, visit jostensadservice.com/student and click “Create A Student Ad.” If you haven’t already, you or your student can also order their yearbook at jostens.com/buyyearbk, or call 1-877-767-5217.
For assistance and other inquiries, please contact Natalie Stevens at natalie.stevens@olympia.org. Thank you!

The Department of FUN chairs, Cody Hendricks & Haley Pack organized a thankful activity where staff randomly selected 5 colleagues to write statements of thankfulness. In no time, staff had their feathers posted, showing the appreciation they have for one another! The real winner was Mr. Frederick, who somehow ended up with even more than 5 feathers! 🩵
