On February 16th through the 18th, a group of Olympia FFA Members participated in the first-ever Ground Zero Leadership Conference held for freshman and sophomore FFA members. The conference was facilitated by the FFA major state officers over Zoom and entailed experiences structured to build participants’ view of leadership in themselves and others. This was accomplished through group discussions, meeting new people, and competitive bonding activities. Emma Kuhns is the Treasurer for the State Officer Team, and she gave her opinion about what was the best part of the conference. Emma stated, “The student interaction hands down! All of the members who participated were actively engaged the whole time and wanted to share their thoughts throughout activities. I love to see members enjoying bettering themselves!”
Olympia had 12 members participate in the virtual conference. Those members were: Anna Kindred, Julie Collins, Peyton Elgin, Aime Witham, Blake Buatte, Reid Glaser, Brantson Komnick, Kat Springer, Paige Finchum, Isabelle Forrest, Tarah Hilt, and Brooke Rogers. Freshman Anna Kindred was asked about her experience with the conference. Anna stated, “My favorite part of the Ground Zero Conference was being able to share my goals with other FFA members and getting to hear what goals they have as well. I really enjoyed the Ground Zero Conference and hope to see it again next year!” The Ground Zero Conference seems to have been very successful overall and for the participants from the Olympia FFA Chapter.
