Olympia High School Student Council is hosting a casual ‘Glowball’ dance on February 22nd from 7:30-10:00 PM. In addition, Olympia organizations are selling food and beverages including lemonade, cookies, and Oreo balls.
Previously, Olympia High School Student Council hosted its annual Blacklight Dance. It was changed to an ‘80’s Dance’ last year, due to an administrative request. This year, the dance was changed to a ‘Glowball’ dance.
“The dance is a good fundraiser for the Student Council. It’s important to remember that it’s the same as the Blacklight Dance, just with a different name. Nothing else has really changed,” said Student Council member Neil Alford.
The switchover to an ‘80’s Dance’ last year caused a drop in attendees. According to the ‘Glowball’ committee, different dance themes and ideas were presented. The ‘Glowball’ was chosen because it closely resembles the Blacklight Dance.
“I hope that students come to the ‘Glowball’. I think it’s a creative way to do the Blacklight Dance without calling it that. I’ve heard different opinions from people in the hallways and classrooms so it’ll be interesting to see how the dance turns out,” said Student Council member Kaylin Simpson.
Olympia High School organizations will be selling various foods and beverages at the ‘Glowball’. This change has never been done at an Olympia High School dance before.
“The Student Council thought it might be nice to offer food and beverages at the dance this year. We reached out to OHS organizations to see if anyone was interested. The Cheerleaders are selling lemonade, NHS is selling soda and water, Key Club is selling oreo balls, and Girls Soccer is selling cookies,” said Student Council advisor Lon Abrams.
The ‘Glowball’ dance will be held on February 22nd from 7:30-10:00 PM in the OHMS Cafeteria. Come on out and dance the night away!
