On Monday, November 11th the students of Olympia High and Middle School had the opportunity to celebrate Veterans Day by honoring the wonderful men and women who have answered the call to serve our great nation. The morning started off with a delicious breakfast prepared by the Olympia kitchen staff. We then moved to the high school gym where OMS Principal Ben Lee welcomed everyone and lead us in the Pledge Allegiance, followed by the singing of the National Anthem performed by the OHS Chamber Choir. Students Josh Reed and Savannah Hoeft gave readings about the meaning of Veterans Day while guest speaker Jason Simmons, McLean County Sheriff's Deputy, told everyone about his many years of service in several different branches of the Armed Forces. The Veterans all took their turn to stand and be recognized as the OHS Band and OHMS Chorus performed Armed Forces -- The Pride of America honoring each branch of the service by their anthem. OHS Principal Ed Jodlowski gave the closing remarks. As the students were dismissed from the gym they had the opportunity to shake hands and Thank the Veteran's for their service. Olympia appreciates all of our Veterans.
