West first graders enjoyed a STEM challenge today! After reading about and learning the purpose of a scarecrow, students were challenged to build their own. First, they designed a scarecrow. Next, they had to build a group scarecrow that incorporated an idea from each group member's design. Lastly, they had to ensure moving pieces functioned to scare away the birds. This activity was also fabulous Social Studies reinforcement- working in groups fairly while listening to opinions, and agreeing/disagreeing respectfully.
