We may have been few in numbers, but Olympia was well represented on the podium in East Peoria on Day 1 of the IESA State Track and Field Finals. Starting the day, Lucy Prestegaard threw a post season best 9.61m in the shot put, finishing 2nd! Our distance runners came out strong, starting with Mili Rebbe beating her season PR in the 1600m by more than 12 seconds, finishing 5th in a strong 7th grade field with a time of 5:23.58. Shortly after, Mira Kistner finished her middle school track career on an incredibly high note, beating her season PR in the 1600m by more than 15 seconds, finishing 4th with a time of 5:33.25. Ty Gale finished 14th in the 7th grade 1600 meter run, with a time 5:18.55, just a couple seconds off his career best mark that he earned last weekend. Returning to state for a second year in a row, Annaston Piro placed 10th in the 8th grade long jump with a distance of 14'9.75". And last, but not least, let's make some noise for our 2024 State Championship and State Record Holder in the 100 meter Wheelchair Division, Rae Lemons, finishing with a time of 26.99.

There must have been something special in the air at Pontiac tonight to explain the incredible performance of the OHS boys' track team at the class 2A Sectional meet. Surpassing all expectations, a nearly flawless execution of skills and efforts resulted in 22 personal bests, one school record, 2 Sectional Champions, and state qualification in 7 events! A season-best performance came from Logan Demling(2:11.9)in the 4x800 relay, who combined with Cooper Phillips, Caden Clark (all-time best 2:07.4), and Jacob Lawless(all-time best 2:11.9) for a season-best time of 8:47.24. Other all-time bests included: Evan Petri in the 3200 m run(11:27.11), C.J. Moore in the 800 m run(2:09.24), Jacob Lawless (4:55.23) and Caden Clark (4:58.96) in the 1600 m run, Corbin Rios in the 200(24.92), Koby Stroud in the discus(122'9"), Cohen Maness in the shot put(39'6.5") and T.J. Gellner in the triple jump. State qualifying marks and all-time bests came from Nolen Yeary in the shot put(3rd place at 49'3"), Chase Ragar in the triple jump(Sectional Champ at 42'4.25"....almost a 2-foot best and only 3/4" from the school record!), Cohen Alexander in the 400(3rd place at 51.41), Keagan Uphoff in the 110 hurdles(2nd place at 15.03) and the high jump (a season best of 6'1"), and the 300 hurdles (Section Champ and shattering his 4-day old school record with a breath-taking 38.46 that currently leads class 2A), and capping off the night was Kaden Wilcox(55.0), Cohen Alexander(51.3), Kaleb Jacobs (54.2), and Keagan Uphoff(50.2) to qualify for state in the 4x400 relay with a season-best time by almost 5 seconds!!! Congrats to all and good luck next Friday at Charleston! Great season Spartans, and it's not over yet! Stay tuned for more action-packed news!
