K12 Holds First Meeting of the Year

School Improvement

The District’s K12 committee met this week to discuss District curriculum, instruction, assessment, and programming.

Dr. Wise welcomed new members and thanked returning members for their service to the committee.  Since the K12 committee makes a variety of decisions, Dr. Wise recommended that committee have data to equip them in the decision-making process.

K12 members are gathering vital information on our curriculum and resources used in the District, then together, the committee will answer important questions such as; does the curriculum lead to increased achievement, is the curriculum aligned to new common core/next generation standards, and is the implementation favored by members of the learning community.  Once armed with this valuable data, the committee will be able to make decisions on which programs need to be enhanced and which programs need to be phased out.  In addition, we can begin to analyze our curriculum mapping and find materials which addresses areas which need bolstered.

Principals and teachers from each school shared the progress they are making with the new Rising Star process.  The school improvements teams are measuring their school’s against new standards of school effectiveness and then creating action plans to address any areas which may fall short of the state standards.  Dr. Wise was pleased with the progress the teams are making.

The K12 committee will reconvene in October.
