Career Development Events are in full swing at Olympia FFA and members are practicing hard for their upcoming competitions.  Public Speaking, Job Interview, Quiz Bowl, and Parliamentary Procedure are the events that FFA members competed in at Pontiac’s Leaderships CDE Invitational on March 17th.  This was a great opportunity for members to practice with judges and receive feedback from others.  Public speaking included Creed speaking, Extemporaneous, and Prepared speeches.  Four Olympia members placed in the top 4 with their public speaking event!  Cavit Schempp was 2nd in the Creed competition, Mackenzie Phillips was 3rd in prepared, Aynslee Curry was 4th in prepared, and Molly Schempp was 1st in extemporaneous.  Job Interview requires members to submit a resume and cover letter, fill out a job application, participate in a telephone interview and a personal interview, and finally write a thank you letter to their interviewers.  Three Olympia students competed in this event and learned more about the interviewing process.  Ashley Miller, Mackenzie Phillips and Cavit Schempp each did a great job in their interviews.  Quiz Bowl consisted of a team of five members:  Josh Kindred, Cody Gibson, Griffen Jodlowski, Nate Weihmeir, and Brock Gottschalk.  Our Quiz Bowl team answered FFA trivia in fast paced rounds against other FFA Chapters.  Olympia brought home first place in this event and the team is excited to keep practicing for their sectional competition next month!  Last but not least, Olympia had two full Parliamentary Procedure teams who competed at Friday’s event.  Each team worked together to run an efficient 10 minute mock meeting which includes the making of a main motion, five required additional motions that must be made, debate, and the answering of questions after their performance.  FFA members will be practicing hard to compete in April and May at these section and district Career Development Events.
