Olympia FFA members attend two U of I career shows

On March 10th, Olympia FFA members explored agricultural opportunities at the University of Illinois. The students split into two groups, 17 Olympia members attended the U of I Explore ACES and 9 went to Women Changing the Face of Agriculture (WCFA). The WCFA was an opportunity for female members to hear key note speaker, Ezandi Oosthuizen, who inspired everyone to be the best they can be and strive to achieve their dreams.WCFA:  Front-Molly Schempp, Claire Springer, Anna Davis, Back-Brooke Bastian, Jessica Castile, Bree Abbott, Ashley Miller, Mackenzie Phillips, and Karmen Glueck Next the ladies attended the career show, where they had 10 minutes at each booth to meet company representatives and network their own name to the businesses. After a catered lunch and a brief college show, they broke into their chosen workshops and explored deeper into their own agricultural career interests. 

The U of I Explore ACES provided students the opportunity to look into the various agricultural departments on campus. The greenhouse was a favorite amongst some of the Olympia students who are currently in a horticulture class at the high school. Another exciting sight was the fistulated cow where a few students were brave enough to ACES 2:  L-R: Brock Gottschalk, Griffen Jodlowski, Brad King, Aden Cisco, Cody Gibson, Nic Runge, Josh Kindred, Andy Davis, Wes Israel, Mason Marquis, Luke Litwiller, and Isaac Rieglerput a glove on and learn hands on!  When asked what his favorite part of the event was, Olympia Junior Isaac Riegler replied, “My favorite part of the day was overall being able to explore the U of I campus and the varying agricultural opportunities.”
