Can You Hear Me Now? First Graders Investigate Sound Waves

Olympia North First Grade Students welcomed Maureen Barnes to bring the Science Standard of Waves: Light and Sound to life. Students planned and conducted investigations to provide evidence that vibrating materials can make sound and that sound can make materials vibrate. The children had a great time learning and asking questions.  She finished by telling the children they could have an adult go to harpkit.com and place an order for an instrument to make together.

When she plays at events with her husband Brian, they are called Dulcimer Dreams.  She brought, explained, and played several instruments.  Some of the instruments introduced were the Hammered Dulcimer, Mountain Dulcimer and the Bowed Psaltery.  Maureen and Brian have played in churches, hospitals, community events and at the Festival of Trees.  Maureen is from Lombard, Il. and has lived in Bloomington for 20 years.
