OHS FFA members, joined by OHS Agriculture teacher/FFA Advisor Bryce Hoffman,
shared a PowerPoint presentation with the Board highlighting some of their experiences and activities while attending the 89th annual National FFA Convention, held Indianapolis, IN. This year’s convention featured various workshops and a career show & expo which included an opportunity to visit booths of colleges from throughout the United States. Members also visited the Indy 500 Museum and were treated to a walk through Hannah’s Haunted Acres. One of this year’s guest speakers was former NFL player Jason Broom who went from the NFL to being a farmer. Each year, he donates his first crop to food pantries and those in need. While at the convention, FFA member Molly Schempp competed in the National FFA Creed Competition, representing Olympia quite well by placing in the finals.
OHS members who attended this year’s convention were Ashley Miller, Brock Gottschalk, Lane Miller, Karmen Glueck, Molly Schempp, Anna Davis, Claire Springer, Josh Kindred, and Nate Weihmeir.
Ashley Miller and Nate Weihmeir also had the opportunity to attend the Washington Leadership Conference this past July. This is a 5-day conference in Washington, DC where students all over the country attend workshops and take tours of the city to see both the beautiful sites and the areas where people are in desperate need of help. Ashley and Nate feel that the conference showed them how to be better people and filled them with a desire to help the world become a better place, starting with their own community.
