On Friday, Oct. 21, the Illinois Shakespeare Touring Company performed for all Freshmen, Sophomore and British Literature students in the high school auditorium.  The performance was sponsored by the English department. The company shared a shortened version of Romeo and Juliet with the students, who all study the play freshman year.

The actors used unique staging with this version of the play--running up and down the auditorium aisles, entering and exiting through doors at the front and side of the room and sitting with the audience.  Each actor also played multiple parts, seamlessly shifting from one to another.  Few props and no scenery was used--just bandanas instead of swords and two metal spoons to make the clanging sound of swords clashing. At the end, students were able to ask questions and meet the actors.
